Abstract
Objective: Evaluate the association between tubal obstructions detected by hysterosalpingography uni or bi lateral and history of ectopic pregnancy from patients attended at Laboratório de Reprodução Humana do HC - UFG.
Methods: We studied 99 infertile patients attended at Laboratório de Reprodução Humana (LABREP), Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Goiás and Mater Clínica de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia, Goiânia. The infertility criteria used was from World Health Organization (WHO, 1992). The inclusion criteria were: Infertile patients that have done hysterosalpingography. It was excluded patients with tubal ligation with contraception goal. A WHO questioner was filled in an interview when patients returned questions about ectopic pregnancy. There was an estimation of Odds Ratio, sensibility, specificity and positive and negative values. The Chi Square was performed at a p = 0.05 significance level.
Results: There was strong association between tubal obstruction detected by hysterosalpingography and ectopic pregnancy antecedent (Odds Ratio = 19.09, C.I. (95%) = 2.179-167.299, X2 = 9.39 p = 0.001. S = 86.0 %, S = 76.0 %, PPV = 21.0 %, PNV = 99.0 %.
Conclusion: We found strong association between tubal obstruction and ectopic pregnancy. This association could put at risk patients who tried get pregnancy by natural methods, by insemination, when one side tubal is permeable or while is waiting for IVF treatment when bi lateral obstruction. We recommend screening for ectopic pregnancy in all patients with delayed menstruation.
